A Foreign Feeling: Wettness and Warmness
If anyone reading this has a solid long-term memory that will hold on to information for any period of time over one month, then you will remember that I lost hot water, one of the often-overlooked comforts of life in this modern age, one month ago. While all of you warm and wet staters were partaking in the lavish luxury that is your hot showers, I was languishing in the chilliness of Bishkek's glacial water for over a month. That is: cold water to wash your face, brush your teeth, and all other comforts of today's humanity. And you're right: it doesn't seem all that bad. I can live without temperate water for a month! And then you take into account the fact that showering in frigid water is really freakin' cold. It definitely does not fall into the category of "nice". Because of this frosty fact, I chose not to take a shower for one month. I did, however, brush my teeth, wash my face and, when I had to, wash my hair (which I did not like) so I wasn't completely unfortunate. Now the repair of the underbelly of Bishkek's mysterious water system has come to an end and, just yesterday, muddy water began to sporadically spurt from the multiple faucets of the city. Now it's citizens may (if they choose) partake in yet another luxury (with mobile communications, transportation and gravity checked off the list). The first thing I was to do is take a shower and the sensation of warm water on my skin was certainly a strange one, but I'm sure I'll get used to it.
